Injection molding

You already: You run precision plastic or thermoset moulding for automotive, appliance or medical customers.

What to add: Cleanroom-graded shot presses, silica-loaded epoxy handling, and semiconductor-industry qualification. The physics is the same; the particle spec and audit trail are not.

Precision machining and welding

You already: You do CNC turning, milling and welding to microns for aerospace, defence or medical devices.

What to add: High-purity electropolishing, aluminium anodising for chamber parts, and orbital welding for gas panels. Semiconductor tool vendors qualify on process control, not on price.

  3. Gas and Chemical Delivery Systems Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr A certifiable trade skill with modest capital, an existing Indian adjacency, and demand from every plant in the cluster simultaneously.
  4. Test Sockets and ATE Consumables Test and Reliability Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr The socket fabrication is a tool-room job an Assam shop could do; the ATE service centre beside it is not, and should not be conflated with it.

Specialty chemicals and formulation

You already: You formulate adhesives, coatings or specialty electronic chemistry, most likely for PCB assembly or EMS.

What to add: Semiconductor-grade impurity control (ppb, not ppm), Class 1000 filling, and the qualification cycle for a fab customer. The gap is the ceiling on impurities, not the chemistry.

Electroplating and surface finishing

You already: You run tin, nickel or gold plating lines for connectors, PCBs or general electronics.

What to add: Bath purity, effluent handling to semiconductor standards, and lead-frame or lead-finish qualification. Effluent is the choke point, not the plating.

Ultrapure water and industrial gases

You already: You design, build or operate UPW plants, bulk gas systems or industrial cryogenics for pharma, power or refining.

What to add: Semiconductor-grade purity (resistivity, particle count), gas-panel purge and leak testing, and the on-site engineering model semiconductor plants prefer.

  2. Bulk and Forming Gas Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier B <Rs 1.5 Cr The opportunity is a purity uplift and distribution contract with an existing producer, not a new gas plant.
  3. Wastewater Treatment and Zero Liquid Discharge Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier B >Rs 15 Cr The technology is Indian and available; the capital and the permitting make it a cluster-level project rather than a single firm’s.
  4. Gas and Chemical Delivery Systems Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr A certifiable trade skill with modest capital, an existing Indian adjacency, and demand from every plant in the cluster simultaneously.

Cleanroom design and build

You already: You build ISO 8 or ISO 7 cleanrooms and controlled environments for pharma, medical devices or biotech.

What to add: ISO 3 to ISO 5 envelopes, semiconductor vibration and EMI specs, and integration with the fab tool commissioning schedule. The tools are Japanese, American or German; the envelope can be Indian.

  3. Equipment Install, Hook-up and Maintenance Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier A <Rs 1.5 Cr Almost no capital, a named Tier 1 gap, and a business whose only real input is trained people.

Analytical and reliability lab

You already: You run a materials, chemistry or reliability lab for automotive, aerospace or defence, or a NABL-accredited test house.

What to add: Semiconductor-specific reliability (HTOL, THB, thermal shock), decapsulation and SEM/FIB failure analysis, and AEC-Q100 or JEDEC methodology.

  1. Failure Analysis Laboratory Test and Reliability Tier B >Rs 15 Cr A real business with real demand, but the instrument bill puts it beyond MSME capital unless it is staged or scheme-supported.

  3. Burn-in and Reliability Stress Test and Reliability Tier A Rs 3-5 Cr Burn-in boards are a recurring, design-led consumable that Indian PCB capability can genuinely reach.

VLSI, EDA and design services

You already: You have an RTL, verification, DFT or physical design team, or you run a design house serving global customers.

What to add: India is a net exporter here. The Tier A openings are packaging-aware design, DFT for advanced packages, and analog/mixed-signal work for Indian customers now emerging.

  2. Physical Design and Implementation Services Chip Design Services Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr Real Indian depth and a reachable capital requirement, tempered by a tool-licence cost base the entrant does not control.
  3. DFT Engineering Services Chip Design Services Tier A <Rs 1.5 Cr Established Indian capability, almost no capital, and a customer base that is already buying this from India.
  4. Post-Silicon Validation and Test Engineering Chip Design Services Tier A Rs 3-5 Cr Higher capital than the other design services because of the lab, but uniquely well matched to a packaging plant arriving in the same state.
  5. Package Design and Signal Integrity Chip Design Services Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr Existing Indian capability meeting newly domestic demand, the clearest timing advantage anywhere on this map.
  6. ASIC Turnkey Design Services Chip Design Services Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr People and tool seats rather than plant. The only vertical in this directory where an Indian entrant starts with an advantage rather than a gap.

Bonded and hazmat logistics

You already: You run bonded warehousing, dangerous-goods forwarding or specialty cold-chain in India.

What to add: Semiconductor MSL storage, quench-oil and precursor handling for the Northeast cluster, and customs classification for fab consumables.

  1. HAZMAT Logistics and Bonded Warehousing Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier A Rs 3-5 Cr Revenue can begin during construction rather than after qualification, which makes this the fastest cash-positive entry on the map.
  2. Tape-and-Reel and Finished-Goods Packing Back-End and OSAT Assembly Tier A Rs 1.5-3 Cr Lowest technical barrier and shortest qualification path of anything on this map. The obvious first supplier relationship for a new entrant.

Technical skilling and training

You already: You run an ITI, polytechnic or private technical training provider, especially in Assam, the Northeast or the corridor states.

What to add: Fab-tool operator curriculum, hands-on wafer handling labs, and industry certification aligned to ISM cluster hiring. Delivery capacity in the Northeast is the gap.

  1. Workforce Training and Certification Fab Utilities, Logistics and Facility Tier A <Rs 1.5 Cr The lowest-capital entry on the entire map, serving a gap that every other entry on it also depends on.

Contract services alongside a fab or OSAT

You already: You want to serve an ISM plant without owning the input line yourself: kitting, distribution, repackaging, field service.

What to add: These are the Tier A adjacencies. Lower capex, faster qualification, and a real revenue line without needing to enter the material market. Most Tier B input entries carry one of these adjacencies.

  1. System-in-Package and Module Assembly Back-End and OSAT Assembly Tier B Rs 5-15 Cr A Rs 5-15 Cr line puts this above a founder-scale entry, but TSAT is already shipping SiP and an Indian JV or a distributor plus assembly service is the realistic path.
